Dr. Shane Dixon, Language Warrior

Dr. Shane Dixon has a PhD in educational technology and a master's in English (language planning and policy). Dr. Dixon (with Dr. Shewell) created the largest TESOL Certificate Program in the world at Arizona State University, currently found on Coursera under the name Teach English Now! He and his team were recognized by Coursera with the 2016 Learner’s First Award, given to the top design team as indicated by learner reviews and course ratings. Dr. Dixon has taught linguistics courses at major universities, and is a lover of all languages. He currently loves to practice Spanish and Portuguese, and is currently taking on French and Korean. He is the author of three books and several articles, including the Amazon bestselling 100 TESOL Activities: Practical ESL/EFL Activities for the Communicative Classroom (Paid Link - Learn more). Dr. Dixon's children are constantly surprised when people think he is a big deal.

 

Dr. Justin Shewell, Language Warrior

Like Dr. Dixon, Dr. Justin Shewell has a PhD in educational technology, and a masters in TESOL with a bachelors in TESOL Education. Like Dr. Dixon, Dr. Shewell is passionate about language learning and teaching, and has worked with teachers from around the world, most recently in Saudi Arabia during a program sponsored by the US Department of State. Dr. Shewell is also passionate about online education, and considers it his mission to eradicate the world of boring Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) by producing courses that are not only fun, but increase learning retention and transfer to the real world. When he is not working with Dr. Dixon to produce the next breakthrough in MOOCs, he is busy serving teachers around the world as a member of the Board of Directors for the TESOL International Association, and developing resources for teachers at his website, eslactivites.com, visited by more than 6,000 teachers per month. Dr. Shewell is also the creator of the Perception of Spoken Englilsh (POSE) Test, the one-of-a-kind perception diagnostic test for English learners, which has helped more than 3,800 learners find areas in their pronunciation they can improve. Dr. Shewell has written several articles and books, including 50 Ways to Teach Online (Paid Link - Learn more), and 50 Ways to Learn a Language (Paid Link - Learn more) with Dr. Dixon. Dr. Shewell and his family have lived in Hawaii, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States, spending the last few years in Arizona.
